Meet Your Maker: Carol Sykes

Carol Sykes is passionate about teaching folk art painting and particularly loves to teach those who don’t believe they are artistic. With 20 years’ experience of teaching thousands of beginner and advance students around the world, Carol is renowned for teaching a fantastic foundation of folk art painting skills. You can hear from Carol and try your hand at folk art in both the Grand Make to make a beautiful berry wreath, or the Skills Workshop for a winter themed session. Learn a little bit about Carol’s passions and quirks in the short interview below…

1. What about the Fair are you most excited about?

Introducing lots of new people to how easy it is to become an artist.

2. If you were a biscuit what would you be?

Definitely an Oreo, they have everything you need in a biscuit and they’re vegan.

3. What’s your biggest fear?

Coming face to face with a rat!

4. What inspires you most?

People. People who have energy, positivity and belief in themselves or things.

5. Tell us something most people don’t know about you?

I managed my sons rock band for several years.

6. What’s your greatest achievement? Teaching hundreds of people who have wanted to paint all their lives and never thought they could the joys of Folk Art Painting.

7. What are you known for?

Keeping lots of balls in the air at the same time.

8. Who would be on your dream dinner list?

I would love to have had dinner with Maya Angelou, I could listen to her wisdom, positive mind and sense of humour all day long. I would have added in some Ryan Goslings & Brad Pitts just to make up the numbers.
